Puremagnetik has released DeeEx, which they describe as a collection of 80′s FM synthesis programs based on the Yamaha DX7. Waveforms is a new collection of aggressive complex custom waveforms for your sampler. Back in my Emax days, I’ll never forget when I received a floppy disk of single cycle waveforms. With only 512k of memory, these were indispensable for making all kinds of synth sounds and noises with the Emax synth engine. Since then I’ve always made my own waveforms for my samplers, albeit not single cycle post Emax, to create more interesting digital/analog possibilities than your stock mega-ROM synth. With the embracing of more aggressive tones in electronic and experimental music it’s time to put out some of my own custom waveforms to take it even higher. Over 100 waveforms that will be sure to cut through the static noise of soft synths and show every one else that you’re not playing nice! The Wasp is a quirky little synthesizer that, despite its toyish look, is quite capable of funky analog sounds. It really is black and yellow too, just like the insect it is named for. Probably its most distinguishing feature is the keyboard and its non-moving touch-sensitive keys. That`s right, the flat little keys are only sensitive to your electro-static touch. It`s a nifty technology for 1978, but in reality they are difficult and unreliable to play. The WASP is powered by two digital oscillators supported by analog filters, envelopes and controls. This makes it one of the earliest digital/analog hybrid synthesizers to come in such a compact package, and it sounds great! The Wasp offers flexible and traditional synthesis of cool bass, synth, and other classic monophonic sounds. Its designer, Chris Hugget, also designed the Oxford Synthesizer Company`s OSCar Synthesizer. The Wasp has been used by 808 State, Dave Holmes, Vince Clarke, WhiteHouse and Add N to (X).

It’s a monophonic analog bass synthesizer married to a pattern-based step sequencer released in 1982. It features a single analog oscillator with two waveforms (saw or square) and has a simple but excellent VCF filter with resonance, cut-off, and envelope controls. There are also knobs to adjust tuning, envelope decay, tempo and accent amount. Puremagnetik has meticulously captured every nuance and style of the original TB-303 and programmed it for use in Ableton Live, Kontakt, Logic and GarageBand.
